Validation of the Revised Maladaptive Thoughts Scale for Adolescents
Lee Jung-Yoon

Abstract
The aim of this study was to develop and validate the revised Maladaptive Thoughts Scale for adolescents(R-MTS-A). In study 1, 535 middle and high school students around Seoul area were analyzed to develop a revised version, 44 items with nine factors were extracted. These factor structures were the same as the old version and the internal consistency coefficients of sub-factors were more improved than the old version. The results of higher-order factor analysis revealed 2 higher-order factors: externalizing problem specific maladaptive thoughts(self-centeredness, low anger threshold, minimizing problem behaviors, other-blame, perfectionism and approval seeking) and internalizing problem specific maladaptive thoughts(self-blame, self-deprecation, maximizing negative experiences). In study 2, 1233 students selected by systematic sampling were participated. The results of confirmatory factor analyses supported nine distinct factors, and the R-MTS-A were positively correlated with K-CATS, R-GABS, and the Schema Questionnaire, thereby demonstrating the convergent validity. The R-MTS-A were found to discriminate between internalizing and externalizing problem groups in community level, and further discriminate between community and clinical externalizing problem groups, thereby demonstrating the appropriate discriminant validity.
